Blane Spiker

Hello! My name is Blane Spiker, and I am the Action Discovery Designer at Howard Connect Academy. I am originally from Michigan but moved down to Tennessee a few years ago to help my wife follow her dream. Now, she is following my dream as I become a part of a team that is willing to rethink the way students learn! This will be my third year teaching students. I spent my first year teaching Elementary PE in Knoxville, TN. I spent this past year working with students with special needs at Northwest Whitfield High School down in Tunnel Hill, GA. I believe Physical Education is more than just 'rolling the balls out and playing' In Physical Education class, I teach skills that prepare students for the future. Not only do I teach the importance of life-long participation in physical activity, but I incorporate life skills into my practice as well, including, social skills, teamwork, coping skills, and relationship building. My primary focus in classroom management is student mentorship. I strive to be someone that students can come to when they have problems, and teach them healthy problem solving techniques, and collaboration skills. I will always be there for my students, and truly pride myself on being this role model. In my free time, I enjoy playing roller hockey, hiking (basically doing anything active), and spending time with my wife and my dog.
